Floating occurs because hovering things dislocate, or push aside, a positive quantity of liquid. If an article displaces more than its heaviness in water, it floats; other wise it sinks.

thickness (the mass per unit of volume) determines how much solid is displaced. concentration is frequently compared to water, which is assigned a thickness of 1. material sink if (like regular Coke) they are extra solid than water, while less-dense material, like Diet Coke, float.

We didn't inquire the Coca Cola Co. for their formula, but we presume that it's the sugar in real Coke that makes it solid enough to sink. We also deduce that it's the reproduction inducement in that diet edition that's less dense, allowing those cans to hover.
